Custom Solutions

I design and build annotation, canvas and mapping web applications, and fix the ones that have outgrown their original design. Most engagements start with a short architecture review, so you know what you are buying before you commit to a larger project.

Services

Annotation & markup tooling

Drawing, measurement and markup tools over PDFs, drawings and technical documents, integrated with the document and asset systems you already run.

Who it's for
Energy, industry and engineering teams whose people review drawings, P&IDs or technical documents in the browser.
Typical problems
  • Markup happens on paper or in desktop tools, outside the system of record
  • An existing viewer cannot handle large or many-page documents
  • Annotations need to link to tags, assets or records in other systems
What you get
  • Browser-based drawing and markup tools
  • Layers, save and load, and integration with your document system
  • Documentation and handover to your team
Typical technologies
  • HTML5 Canvas
  • KonvaJS
  • PDF.js
  • TypeScript
Format

Geospatial & mapping applications

Interactive maps that stay responsive over large datasets, and migrations between GIS stacks without losing features along the way.

Who it's for
Public-sector and industry teams running GIS, mapping or analysis tools.
Typical problems
  • A map has slowed down as the data grew
  • Licensing or vendor lock-in is pushing a move away from the current GIS stack
  • Analysis results are hard to explore on a map
What you get
  • Map application or migration plan and implementation
  • Rendering strategy for large datasets
  • Documentation and handover
Typical technologies
  • OpenLayers
  • ArcGIS
  • MapLibre
  • TypeScript

Performance rescue

For interfaces that have outgrown their original design. I profile the real bottlenecks, then fix the rendering strategy and state management behind them.

Who it's for
Product teams with a canvas, map or editor-based interface that has become slow.
Typical problems
  • Interactions lag with real-world data
  • Memory grows until the tab has to be reloaded
  • Small changes cause unexpected re-renders across the app
What you get
  • Profiling results and a prioritised fix list
  • Implemented fixes with before and after measurements
  • Guidelines that keep it fast
Typical technologies
  • Chrome DevTools
  • Canvas
  • Web Workers
  • React
  • Svelte

Complete web applications & UI systems

When the visual layer is part of a larger product, I design the frontend architecture and UI system and build the backend too.

Who it's for
Companies replacing spreadsheets or legacy tools with a web application, and products that need a coherent UI system.
Typical problems
  • Critical data lives in Excel files and spreadsheets
  • Several tools overlap and nobody trusts which one is right
  • The UI has grown without a shared component system
What you get
  • Web application with data migration from your existing files
  • Component library and UI guidelines
  • Custom CRM, reporting and workflow automation where needed
Typical technologies
  • TypeScript
  • Svelte
  • React
  • Python / Django
  • Node
  • Java / Spring Boot

How engagements work

  1. Discovery call

A short, free call to understand the problem and check whether I am the right fit.

  2. Architecture review or scoped proposal

A written plan with scope, milestones and price, so there are no surprises.

  3. Build & handover

Delivery end-to-end, with documentation your team can keep working from.

What I don't do

Saying no early saves both of us time. If your project is one of these, I am happy to suggest someone better suited.

  • Low-budget brochure websites
  • Simple WordPress or e-commerce shops
  • Logo, branding and video production

FAQ

How do we start?

Send an email describing what you are working on. If it looks like a fit, we set up a short discovery call.

Do you sign NDAs?

Yes. I am happy to sign your NDA before we discuss details of your product or data.

What kind of contracts do you use?

A fixed price for architecture reviews, a scoped proposal with milestones for projects, and a time-based agreement for embedded work. I can also work under your framework agreement.

Remote or on-site?

Mostly remote, from Fredrikstad, Norway. I work with clients across Scandinavia and the rest of Europe, and take on projects elsewhere in the world by arrangement. On-site workshops and kick-offs can be arranged.

Can you work with our in-house team?

Yes, and that is often the best setup. I work in your repositories and processes, write things down, and hand over so your team can carry on without me.

Who owns the code?

You do. Intellectual property for the work produced in an engagement transfers to you, as set out in the agreement.

Not sure which of these fits? Describe the problem and I'll tell you honestly.
